Welcome to the party my friends! If you’re here you’re part of something truly special.
The first EVER release of a magazine dedicated to food and beverage workers, about food and beverage workers, written and released solely by food and beverage workers. Neat, huh? Since this is the first ever edition, I’d like to introduce you to the column. At Glamour and Grind you will find all things beauty, skincare, haircare, morning and nighttime regimens, and so much more. You can find solid reviews (unlike those on Yelp) and recommendations on products. You’ll even find a “how-to-take-care-of-your-feet-after-standing-all-day-on-a-double-patio-section-where-you’re- sweaty-and-running-around-because-that-kid-over-there-wanted-ranch-not-ketchup-for-his-taters”. You’ll see trending make-up tutorials. We’ll demo how to remove your makeup and grime all together. This feature will be inclusive for everyone, will be fresh, and will keep you on your toes.
We all work food & bev so I know you’re going to be with me on this one: we work long, crazy, soul and sanity diminishing hours that aren’t great for our mental and physical health. As hard as it might be sometimes, we need to remember to take care of ourselves. For our very first time around we are going to be discussing our basic daily skincare routine. We all know how important it is to wash our faces, right? If you don’t know, now you do! I’m going to give you a super simple, super easy routine that you can fit in after our late nights at the restaurant. It would be great if you could follow this routine morning and night, a little pregame and a lot of after party, but if you’re new to this start with at least a nighttime regimen. Working all day and then going to sleep with the days yuck leftover on you? Let’s fix that in three easy steps!
Step One Cleanse Washing your face is step one! If you’re only going to do one part of this routine, make it this! When you cleanse your face you are getting rid of the dirt, oil, and grime that has settled onto your skin throughout the day. Wet your face with warm water, choose a gentle cleanser (my favorite is Pacifica’s Wake Up Beautiful Waterless Cleansing Balm) and make a nice lather by rubbing your cleanser on your face in a circular motion. It’s a massage for your face that is super essential to keep your skin nice and fresh. Once or twice a week if you’re feeling a little extra you can use an exfoliating cleanser (my favorite is Pacifica’s Glow Baby Liquid Exfoliator) to remove excess old dirt and skin. Your skin will thank you!
Step Two Tone Toning is the process that compliments your cleanser. It should be used after you wash your face, but before you use any other products, as it will also help with absorption. What is toner, you ask? Toners are a wide array of liquids, serums, and sprays that are full of vitamins and nutrients that add to the health and glow of your skin. My favorite is Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner. You will be vibrant, you will feel refreshed, and your skin will be healthier, too. Trust the process because skincare is exactly that- a process. Getting into a rhythm might take you a minute which is totally fine. Figure out what works for you and go from there!
Step Three Moisturize When you moisturize you help keep your skin hydrated and healthy- it’s as simple as that. This step will keep your skin soft and dewy as the moisture protects your skin from becoming dry, irritated, or cracked. Winter is coming if you know what I mean. Don’t skip this step if you have an oily skin type either, moisturizing is for everybody. My favorite is Pacifica’s Wake Up Beautiful Overnight Retinoid Cream. Keep on glowing on.
